VIEW-MASTER
FILM CUTTERS

right_menu

These two film cutters were specifically produced to allow users of Sawyers View-Master Personal and MKII cameras to stamp their pictures out of the standard 35mm film used by the cameras.

Once stamped out, the 'chips' were then then loaded into 14 pockets of a 'Personal Reel', a special form of View-Master reel that had pre-made pockets, ready to accept the film chips.

Each type of cutter had a lamp built in which illuminated the film whilst it was being cut to allow accurate alignment of the photographs with the die cutter.

The two styles of Personal Camera Film Cutter

The cutter on the left is made for the USA Personal Camera. This camera produced stereo pairs that were horizontal on the film.  The right-hand cutter was produced to use with the later MKII camera from Europe. This camera produced diagonal pairs of pictures.

In this picture you can see the different cutter types, USA Personal on the left and the European diagonal MKII cutter on the right.

A Film Inserter could be used to grip the 'chips' created by the cutters above and then slightly open the pocket in the personal reel into which the film chip was placed.
