VIEW-MASTER
PERSONAL CAMERA
FILTERS

right_menu

These filters were sold in the 1950's to fit the Sawyers View-Master Personal camera. The ones shown below are marked "85-C for Type F Kodachrome". The filters themselves are 30mm in diameter. Unusually, the they do not have a thread, instead a retaining ring, known as a "Series V Filter Retaining Ring", is removed from the camera body and the filter is inserted into it. The retaining ring is then screwed back into the camera, securing the filter in place.

The filters have embossed writing around their circumference which says,
"Series V 85-C View-Master Personal Stereo Camera U.S.A."

85C filters are used to create a warming effect (reducing blues / increasing reds). They decrease the colour temperature from 5500°K to 3800°K.

In the picture on the left you can see an exploded view, showing the order in which the retaining ring and filter are attached to the camera body.
