FLASHBRITE

This Flashbrite Generator Projector was produced by Janex Corp, Eatontown, New Jersey, USA in 1976 and was priced at around $10.

To view a reel the operator had to turn the handle quite fast to generate electricity to power the bulb. When the handle stopped turning the light went out. Another novel feature of this projector was that with every ten turns of the handle the reel automatically advanced to the next picture - with a loud clunk!.

The winding handle could be fitted to either side so the projector could be used by both left-handed and right-handed people.

The brown disk on the top of the handle is a focus control and the bulb was accessed via a round cover at the rear of the unit.

The projector provides a surprisingly good picture, if not a little flickery, but above all, it's really good fun to use.

There is a white switch on the side of the projector that has to be set to the appropriate position for the type of reel being viewed, either View-Master or one of Janex's own format reels.

The Janex produced reels are not stereo, instead they have 14 individual mono pictures.

The box in which this example was supplied had a Toys"R"Us sticker on it priced at $8.87
